For many of us, biking is a year-round habit, but May gives it a well-deserved spotlight. Recognized nationwide as National Bike Month, it’s a time dedicated to everything that makes cycling such a rewarding way to move, explore, and unwind. Even better, the month is packed with themed days and events that make it easy to join in.

National Bike Month dates back to 1956, when the League of American Bicyclists introduced the celebration to raise awareness about the many advantages of life on two wheels. From boosting physical health and supporting a cleaner environment to improving mental well-being and offering a closer connection to the outdoors, biking delivers benefits that go far beyond the ride itself.

Looking to take part? The calendar offers plenty of opportunities:

National Ride a Bike Day kicks things off on May 3. A relatively new addition—first introduced in 2021—this day is all about getting in the saddle, whether that means a quick trip around the neighborhood or a longer, more ambitious ride.

National Bike & Roll to School Day on May 6 encourages younger riders to get involved. Organized by the National Center for Safe Routes to School, it promotes safe, active travel for students heading to class.

Bike to Work Week runs May 11–17 and invites commuters to swap four wheels for two, culminating in Bike to Work Day on May 15, a perfect excuse to rethink the daily routine.

We’re proud to be recognized as a Bicycle Friendly Business by the League of American Bicyclists, and we’re always ready to celebrate the simple joy of a great ride. However you choose to take part, May is the perfect time to get rolling.
