There’s no shortage of ways to celebrate Independence Day on Hilton Head Island. From family-friendly races and festive parades to live music, beachside traditions, and dazzling fireworks displays, the Fourth of July is one of the island’s most exciting days of the year.
Of course, we think the best way to experience it all is by bike. With dedicated pathways connecting many of the island’s most popular destinations, cycling lets you skip some of the holiday traffic while enjoying the warm summer weather. Whether you choose a beach cruiser, an e-bike, or a setup that accommodates the whole family, traveling on two wheels makes it easy to move from one celebration to the next.
Get a head start on the holiday festivities with live music from the Chilly Willy Band at The Black Marlin on July 3. Known for their seasoned musicianship and easygoing style, the band always delivers a crowd-pleasing performance. Best of all, our own Jim Hall will be on stage. If you miss them that night, you can catch Chilly Willy (without Jim) performing at Local Legends on July 4.
Kick off the morning of the Fourth at the Hilton Head Firecracker 5K, a longstanding island tradition that welcomes runners and walkers of all ages. The event features a scenic course, patriotic spirit, awards, and plenty of post-race fun.
Later in the morning, head to Harbour Town for the annual Fourth of July Parade. Guests are encouraged to join the festivities by decorating bikes, pets, and themselves before taking part in the colorful procession. The celebration continues with family-friendly activities and carnival fun.
After lunch, make your way to the shoreline for Salute from the Shore, the annual military flyover that travels along South Carolina’s coast. It’s a memorable opportunity to honor service members while enjoying time on the beach.
As evening approaches, gather beneath the Liberty Oak in Harbour Town for Gregg Russell’s beloved Independence Day concert, a tradition that has entertained generations of visitors and residents alike.
The day concludes with spectacular fireworks displays lighting up the night sky. Both Harbour Town and Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina offer festive celebrations featuring live entertainment, food, and unforgettable views.
