July 25, 2025Hilton Head Island is a top pick for family vacations – and for good reason. With beautiful beaches, lush parks, incredible wildlife, and endless outdoor adventures, it’s the perfect place to relax, explore, and make memories together.
Beyond the natural beauty and bike-friendly paths, Hilton Head also hosts fantastic events designed especially for kids during the summer months. Here are some top activities and happenings that children will love this season:
The Sandbox Children’s Museum
Let your kids dive into hands-on learning at The Sandbox, Hilton Head’s interactive children’s museum. Little ones can explore STEM Alley, sculpt at the kinetic sand tables, pretend to navigate a shrimp boat, or take the pilot’s seat on a model flight deck. Throughout the summer, the museum also hosts puppet shows, science demos, interactive story times, and reptile meet & greets that keep young minds engaged and curious.
Rick Hubbard’s Great American Kids Show
Every Wednesday evening in summer, Harbour Town’s iconic Liberty Oak Tree becomes the stage for Rick Hubbard’s Great American Kids Show. This one-of-a-kind performance combines comedy, music, and kazoos, inviting kids to join in the fun and become part of the show themselves.
Turtle Trots
Kick off your mornings with Turtle Trots at Palmetto Dunes, a weekly 5K fun run held every Wednesday at 8 a.m. through August 13. Designed for runners and walkers of all ages, this relaxed event is a perfect way for families to get active together while supporting Palmetto Dunes Cares. After your morning run, return in the evening for Turtle Talks at 8 p.m., where you’ll learn fascinating facts about Hilton Head’s beloved sea turtles and local conservation efforts.
Movie Nights in the Park
Grab a blanket and settle in for Movie Nights at Shelter Cove Community Park every Thursday until August 14. Family favorites like Inside Out 2, Despicable Me 4, Mufasa: The Lion King, and Encanto will light up the big screen starting at 8:30 p.m., offering a magical way to end a summer day.
Summer Jams and Sunset Celebrations

On Tuesday nights, Summer Jams light up the park with bounce houses, face painting, and dazzling fireworks displays. Then, wind down your week with Sunset Celebration every Friday until August 15, featuring live music and gorgeous evening views – the perfect setting for families to relax together.
Gregg Russell Concerts at Harbour Town
A true Sea Pines tradition, Gregg Russell has been entertaining Hilton Head visitors for more than 35 years with his lively sing-alongs and heartfelt performances under the Liberty Oak. Catch him most evenings this summer in Harbour Town, where kids gather at his feet and adults sing along to familiar favorites. It’s a quintessential Hilton Head experience that brings generations together through music and laughter.
Pirates of Hilton Head Adventure
All aboard the Black Sparrow pirate ship for a swashbuckling good time with Stinky Pete and his crew. This 90-minute mini cruise includes pirate tattoos, costumes, water cannon battles, and treasure hunts, giving kids a day on the water they’ll never forget.
